Château Lynch-Bages is located in the French commune of Pauillac in the west of France. The winery belongs to the Pauillac appellation and is located in the Bordeaux wine-growing region.
With the first wine from Chateau Lynch Bages - also known as "Grand Vin" - the winery was included in the Bordeaux classification in 1855. Since then, this red wine has belonged to the Cinquième Grand Cru Classé. The classification of Bordeaux wine according to quality levels is intended to clarify the quality and price level of the wines grown.
The grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon (73%), Merlot (15%), Cabernet Franc (10%) and Petit Verdot (2%) are grown on an area of around 103 hectares. Around 300,000 bottles of the "Grand Vin" are produced annually. However, the second wine from Château Lynch-Bages, "Écho de Lynch-Bages", does not belong to the 5ème Grand Cru Classé. There is also a plot of around 7 hectares where white grape varieties are grown. The grape varieties Sémillon (40%), Sauvignon Blanc (40%) and Muscadelle (20%) are used for this white wine "Blanc de Lynch-Bages".
