Château Rieussec is located in the French commune of Fargues in the west of France. The winery belongs to the Sauternes appellation and is located in the Bordeaux wine-growing region.

With the first wine from Chateau Rieussec - also known as "Grand Vin" - the winery was included in the Bordeaux classification in 1855. Since then, this dessert wine has belonged to the Premier Grand Cru Classé. The classification of Bordeaux wine according to quality levels is intended to clarify the quality and price level of the wines produced.

The grape varieties Sémillon (80%), Sauvignon Blanc (18%) and Muscadelle (2%) are grown on an area of ​​around 85 hectares. Around 40,000 bottles of the "Grand Vin" are produced each year. The second wine from Château Rieussec, "Carmes de Rieussec", does not belong to the 1er Grand Cru Classé. A white wine "R" is also produced, but this belongs to the Graves appellation.
