Collection: Château Angelus

Château Angelus is located in the French commune of Saint-Émilion in western France. The winery belongs to the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation and is located in the Bordeaux wine-growing region.

With the first wine from Chateau Angelus—also called "Grand Vin"—the winery achieved level B in the classification of Saint-Émilion wines for the first time in 1996. From 1996 to 2011, this red wine belonged to the Premier Grand Cru Classé B.

Since the classification of Saint-Émilion wineries takes place at regular intervals through an application and a committee, Chateau Angelus achieved an upgrade to Premier Grand Cru Classé A. The winery held this quality level from 2012 to 2021. Classifying Bordeaux wines according to quality levels is intended to clarify the quality and price levels of the wines produced.

The winery withdrew its application for the following period in January 2022. For this reason, the labels of wine bottles from the 2022 vintage onwards no longer indicate a quality level.

The grape varieties Merlot (50%), Cabernet Franc (47%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (3%) are cultivated on an area of approximately 23 hectares. Approximately 125,000 bottles of this "Grand Vin" are produced annually. However, Château Angelus's second wine, "Carillon d'Angelus," has never been classified as a 1st Grand Cru Classé. Approximately 15,000 bottles of this wine have been marketed annually since 1987.

Chateau Angelus also produces a third wine, "No 3 d'Angelus," a so-called young wine intended for early enjoyment and consisting of between 85-90% Merlot. Another wine, "Tempo d'Angelus," is intended for very young consumption.
