Château Pouget is located in the French commune of Margaux-Cantenac in the west of France. The winery belongs to the Margaux appellation and is located in the Bordeaux wine-growing region.
With the first wine from Chateau Pouget - also known as "Grand Vin" - the winery was included in the Bordeaux classification in 1855. Since then, this red wine has belonged to the Quatrième Grand Cru Classé. The classification of Bordeaux wine according to quality levels is intended to clarify the quality and price level of the wines produced.
The grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (30%) and Cabernet Franc (10%) are grown on an area of around 10 hectares. Around 60,000 bottles of the "Grand Vin" and the second wine are produced annually. However, the second wine of Château Pouget, "Antoine Pouget", does not belong to the 4ème Grand Cru Classé. This wine was previously marketed under the name "Château la Tour Hassac".
