Château de Malle is located in the French commune of Preignac in the west of France. The winery belongs to the Sauternes appellation and is located in the Bordeaux wine-growing region.
With the first wine from Chateau de Malle - also known as "Grand Vin" - the winery was included in the Bordeaux classification in 1855. Since then, this dessert wine has belonged to the Deuxième Grand Cru Classé. The classification of Bordeaux wine according to quality levels is intended to clarify the quality and price level of the wines produced.
The grape varieties Sémillon (70%), Sauvignon Blanc (28%) and Muscadelle (2%) are grown on an area of approximately 28 hectares. This first wine is grown in the Sauternes appellation.
There are also three second wines, which are grown in the Graves appellation. An area of around 20 hectares is cultivated for the red wine. The red wine is called "Château de Cardaillan" and consists of Cabernet Sauvignon (50%) and Merlot (50%). A second red wine is marketed as "Château Pessan" and consists of Merlot (60%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (40%).
In addition to the first wine (Grand Vin), which is a dessert wine, and the two red wines, a white wine is also produced. This is also located in the Graves appellation. Sauvignon Blanc (70%) and Sémillon (30%) are grown on an area of around 3 hectares. The white wine is called "M de Malle".
However, the three second wines (two red wines and one white wine) do not belong to the 2ème Grand Cru Classé.
