Collection: Château de Fieuzal

Elegance and character from Pessac-Léognan

Château de Fieuzal is one of the most historic yet modern wineries in the Pessac-Léognan appellation in the Graves region south of Bordeaux. As a recognized Grand Cru Classé de Graves, it is known for powerful, precise, and age-worthy wines that combine tradition and innovation. The estate is renowned for its characterful red and white wines, which are among the best in the region.

Historical roots

The history of Château de Fieuzal dates back to the 17th century . The estate owes its name to the Fieuzal family, who shaped the property for generations. Early on, the winery became known for the quality of its wines and achieved an excellent reputation in France and beyond.

Over the centuries, the Château changed hands several times, but always remained true to its style and quality philosophy. A significant turning point came in the 20th century when Château de Fieuzal was classified as a Grand Cru Classé in the famous Graves classification of 1959 – a milestone that solidified its position among the region's top wineries.

Since 2001, the winery has been owned by Irish entrepreneur Lochlann Quinn , who, together with a dedicated team, invested in vineyards, cellar technology and sustainable farming methods.

The terroir

Château de Fieuzal is located in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, not far from Léognan. The vineyards cover approximately 75 hectares , of which about 65 hectares are planted with red wine grapes and 10 hectares with white wine grapes.

The soils consist of gravelly terraces over a sandy-loam subsoil , typical of the Graves region. This terroir offers ideal conditions for growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot for red wines, as well as Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon for white wines.

The deep gravelly soils store heat and ensure even ripening of the grapes, while the high proportion of sand gives the wine elegance and finesse.

Viticulture and Philosophy

Under the leadership of Stephen Carrier , who shaped the winery for many years, a philosophy based on precision and naturalness was developed. Château de Fieuzal operates according to environmentally friendly principles, promotes biodiversity, and ensures the gentle treatment of the vines.

The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand , and each parcel is vinified individually. The red wines are aged for 12 to 18 months in French oak barrels , while the white wines mature on the lees to develop depth and complexity.

Style and character of the wines

The red wines of Château de Fieuzal are characterized by power, structure, and fine tannins – typical of the Graves region, but always with the elegance that makes Pessac-Léognan so special. The white wines are marked by freshness, minerality, and remarkable longevity.

Both styles harmoniously combine classic Bordeaux tradition with modern precision. They authentically reflect the terroir and represent a wine philosophy that unites respect for nature with the highest quality.

Meaning today

Today, Château de Fieuzal is among the most respected producers in the region. It combines the long history of Graves winemaking with a clear, forward-looking vision. The estate's wines are in demand worldwide – both among collectors and lovers of authentic Bordeaux wines.

Château de Fieuzal thus remains a symbol of what distinguishes Pessac-Léognan: depth, elegance and permanence – a combination of tradition and modern excellence.
