Collection: Château Haut-Bailly
Château Haut-Bailly is located in the French commune of Léognan in the west of France. The winery belongs to the Pessac-Léognan appellation and is located in the Bordeaux wine-growing region.
The Pessac-Léognan appellation was only founded in September 1987. This means that all vintages before that belong to the Graves appellation.
With the first wine from Chateau Haut Bailly - also known as "Grand Vin" - the winery was included in the classification of Graves wines in 1953 - it produces only red wines. Since then, the first wine has belonged to the Cru Classé de Graves for red wines. The classification of wine according to quality levels is intended to clarify the quality and price level of the wines produced.
Various grape varieties are grown on an area of around 30 hectares. The red wine is made from Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (34%), Petit Verdot (3%) and Cabernet Franc (3%). Around 160,000 bottles are sold annually (including second and third wines).
Since 1967, Château Haut-Bailly has also been producing a second wine, making it one of the first wineries to introduce a second wine. This was called "Domaine de la Parde" until 1979 and was then renamed "La Parde de Haut-Bailly".
In addition, since 1987 the winery has also produced a third wine called "HB" and is also known as "Pessac-Léognan de Château Haut-Bailly".
