Château Calon Ségur is located in the French commune of Saint-Estèphe in the west of France. The winery belongs to the Saint-Estèphe appellation and is located in the Bordeaux wine-growing region.
With the first wine from Chateau Calon Segur - also known as "Grand Vin" - the winery was included in the Bordeaux classification in 1855. Since then, this red wine has belonged to the Troisième Grand Cru Classé. The classification of Bordeaux wine according to quality levels is intended to clarify the quality and price level of the wines produced.
The grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (20%) and Cabernet Franc (15%) are grown on an area of around 55 hectares. Around 250,000 bottles of the "Grand Vin" are produced annually. The second wine from Château Calon Ségur, "Marquis de Calon Ségur", does not belong to the 3ème Grand Cru Classé. A young wine is also produced, which bears the name "Saint-Estèphe de Calon Ségur".
