Château Gruaud-Larose is located in the French commune of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle in western France. The estate belongs to the Saint-Julien appellation and is located in the Bordeaux wine-growing region.
With the first wine from Chateau Gruaud Larose—also known as the "Grand Vin"—the winery was admitted to the Bordeaux Classification in 1855. Since then, this red wine has been part of the Deuxième Grand Cru Classé. The classification of Bordeaux wines according to quality levels is intended to clarify the quality and price levels of the wines produced.
The grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon (55%), Merlot (31%), Cabernet Franc (10%), Petit Verdot (2%) and Malbec (2%) are cultivated on an area of approximately 82 hectares.
The second wine of Château Gruaud-Larose is called "Sarget de Château Gruaud-Larose" and does not belong to the 2ème Grand Cru Classé.
