Château Haut-Bages Libéral is located in the French commune of Pauillac in western France. The estate belongs to the Pauillac appellation and is located in the Bordeaux wine-growing region.

With the first wine from Chateau Haut Bages Liberal—also known as the "Grand Vin"—the winery was admitted to the Bordeaux Classification in 1855. Since then, this red wine has been part of the Cinquième Grand Cru Classé. The classification of Bordeaux wines according to quality levels is intended to clarify the quality and price levels of the wines produced.

The vineyards are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) and Merlot (30%) on approximately 28 hectares. Approximately 108,000 bottles of this "Grand Vin" are produced annually. However, Château Haut-Bages Libéral's second wine, "La Chapelle de Bages," is not classified as a 5th Grand Cru Classé. Approximately 78,000 bottles of this wine are produced.
